Kiera when she retired from the show ring was sold to a lady who just celebrated her 94th birthday. The woman had a pekingese her whole life.
Kiera though 5 years old took to her immediately and it was love at first sight. The two have been together since 21 January 2010.
In march 2010 the lady's small apartment was burglarized. She was pushed down and kicked. Kiera sat at her side and gave small woofs at the intruders. When they had taken the silver and the valuable items they left her on the floor. The door was not completely closed as they made their escape.
Kiera went out the front door and started barking in the hallway. It was approximately 8:30 pm and her companion during the day had left. Kiera continued barking until she aroused the neighbors.
Kiera had never barked before in this manner. Her owner was found lying injured on the floor. Police were called and she was taken to the hospital. She insisted that the dog be allowed to go with her in the ambulance.
Kiera and her owner are home again though they are more housebound than before the attack. Her owner insists that this little pekingese "saved her life." A lion heart in a small dog. Never underestimate the worth of a pekingese.
